Stop Praying for Trump and Do Something

Written by  Bob Serody

I stated early in Trump’s presidency that he had committed enough crimes and misdemeanors to start impeachment proceedings. When listening to the reasons why Nancy Pelosi is dragging her feet, it is obvious that her reasons are political. She is afraid that House Democrats will prematurely initiate impeachment proceedings before extracting all the evidence in the Mueller report, and in any case, the Republican-controlled Senate won’t have the desire to convict him. She is concerned that adopting this approach will lessen the chance to defeat Trump in 2020. However, Trump is blocking the subpoenas issued by the House Judiciary Committee that are necessary to determine if he has obstructed justice.  To make matters worse, there are now 23 Democrats trying to capture the Democratic Presidential nomination. It is obvious that this many candidates will detract from providing a sense of unity, and instead, it may improve Trump’s chances for reelection.

The real question is whether for the sake of political expediency, we should believe that concentrating on the next election would outweigh going after Trump’s violations of the Constitution. I believe there is already sufficient evidence to begin impeachment proceedings. What really caused me to write this article was Pelosi’s stated belief that if she prays for President Trump, God might take the time to rearrange his mind and direct him to serve the American people instead of pursuing his own crooked agenda. On the other hand, Nancy Pelosi’s statement that she prayed for Trump after he recently walked out of the White House meeting with her and Chuck Schumer could be just another way of saying his misdeeds are hurting all Americans, and may God have mercy on him.

Since she brought up the subject of prayer, let’s talk about religious faith as a means of influencing leaders to be righteous and serve the people, meaning that prayer will somehow stop autocratic leaders from causing mass murder and instead behave like good human beings. Did prayer stop the holy wars between Catholics and Muslims? Did it prevent the Hundred Years War or the Thirty Years War? Did it hasten scientific progress or delay important discoveries for 1000 years? Did prayer prevent Hitler from implementing the Holocaust, which wiped out six million Jews in World War II?

Maybe these horrible events might have been worse without prayer, but history has shown that it is better to elect leaders who make beneficial decisions and take action based on moral judgments and principles instead of just praying for a solution.  This brings us back to Nancy Pelosi’s attempt to promote the idea that prayer is better than initiating impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump. My message to her is simply this. “Nancy, stop praying for Trump and do something!” Permit the members of Congress we elected to do the right thing and start impeachment proceedings now.
