Awards Recognize Recycling Efforts by Brevard County Schools

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- The Brevard County Solid Waste Management Department and the League of Women Voters of the Space Coast are pleased to announce the School Recycling Awards for this school year. Enterprise Elementary School, Edgewood Jr. /Sr. High School and Heritage High School were named winners in their respective categories for outstanding recycling efforts during the 2012-2013 school year.

The Recycling Awards Program is the combined efforts of the League of Women Voters of the Space Coast, Brevard County Solid Waste Management and the Brevard County Public Schools as a way to recognize and encourage recycling efforts within the Brevard School System. The award is based on the amounts of materials collected and recycled, the overall effectiveness of the individual school's program and the students' involvement. In each category Enterprise Elementary, Edgewood and Heritage excelled. This year, several schools deserved Honorable Mention: St. Teresa School, Manatee Elementary, Jupiter Elementary and Space Coast Jr. /Sr. High School. Recycling teaches students the need to conserve precious natural resources.
