Excerpts adapted from adventure newsletter and website:

'Bon Voyage Party' on Saturday evening, 6pm Nov. 30, 2013 at Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach FL. See full schedule below.

Paddle begins next morning at sunrise, Sunday, Dec. 1, JB's Fish Camp, New Smyrna Beach FL.

To raise public awareness of the Indian River Lagoon -- our Estuary of National Significance -- canoers and kayakers begin paddling in New Smyrna Beach -- at JB's Fish Camp -- and head south 160 miles to Jupiter FL.

'Weather cooperating, we'll end our paddle on December 19,' advises lagoon advocate and co-organizer Rodney Smith.

Follow their progress and efforts to raise $100,000 for educational trust fund, to be administered by Marine Resources Center.

The organizers want to encourage 'people to become active stewards of the critically important estuary… it is a fact that an oversupply of nutrients is choking the lagoon, and there are other problems -- correctable problems. We can and will fix them. The lagoon is a beautiful, vibrant part of our community. If we take the proper steps it will be an invaluable recreational resource for generations to come.'
